Back to Basics Grain Pairing is a Maine tasting event celebrating local grains through paired bites and sips. Guests will enjoy breads, pastries, and other baked goods paired with craft beer from Allagash Brewing Company and Bissell Brothers, along with cheeses from Crooked Face Creamery.

The evening will feature remarks from Allagash Brewmaster Jason Perkins; Bissell Brothers owners Hester and Noah Bissell; Amy Rowbottom of Crooked Face Creamery; Miles Lambke of the Biergarten; and Tristan Noyes of the Maine Grain Alliance. Together, they’ll explore how local grains contribute flavor, texture, and meaning to the foods and beverages we love.

Each pairing will feature grain in some form, with the final menu designed to showcase the connections between Maine’s farmers, bakers, brewers, cheesemakers, and eaters.

5 pairings featuring local grain breads, pastries, Maine craft beer, and artisan cheese, with guided tasting notes and stories from the makers behind each bite and sip.

Price: $50 per person

Enjoy a guided tasting experience featuring five pairings that showcase the versatility of Maine-grown grains across artisan bread, craft beer, and local cheese. The evening’s pairings will highlight a range of grain varieties including wheat, rye, einkorn, spelt, and heritage grains.

Guests can expect fresh grain-inspired breads and treats paired with beers from Allagash Brewing Company and Bissell Brothers, alongside thoughtfully selected cheeses that complement and contrast each pairing. Throughout the evening, presenters will share insights into how grain variety, fermentation, malting, baking, and cheesemaking contribute to flavor and texture.

The final menu is currently being refined and may change based on seasonal availability and ongoing collaboration among participating producers.
