Support Your the Regional Grain Economy
The Maine Grain Alliance works to build local and regional grain networks as important cornerstones of a vibrant local food movement. The annual Kneading Conference, Artisan Bread Fair, and year-round baking education workshops encourage farmers to successfully introduce grains into their rotations, create models for rebuilding lost infrastructure, and educate and inspire a new wave of artisan and home bakers, grist mill operators, maltsters, brewers, cooks and chefs, and grain entrepreneurs. Our seed restoration program aims to restore rare, heritage, and landrace varieties of grains by turning handfuls of carefully kept seed into commercially viable quantities for farms. The Maine Grain Alliance awards technical assistance grants to grain based businesses with the goal of strengthening the cluster of grains businesses in our community. Together we are putting a face and a place on grains.
